Emergency crews continue to battle the Brunswick Creek wildfire (V10742), which is burning in the vicinity of Chaumox Road north of North Bend, British Columbia. The wildfire has grown to an estimated 100 hectares and remains classified as Out of Control, prompting a large-scale response from firefighting agencies and local authorities.
The Boston Bar Fire Department, supported by regional wildfire crews, aviation resources, heavy equipment operators, and specialized unit teams, remains actively engaged in suppression efforts. Fire officials report that the blaze is currently exhibiting rank 3 to 4 fire behavior, characterized by highly vigorous surface burning, torching trees, and occasional passive crown fire activity. Such conditions can allow a wildfire to spread rapidly, particularly in steep terrain and dry vegetation.
In addition to the main fire, crews are also responding to several spot fires that have developed north of the Brunswick Creek wildfire. Aviation resources, including helicopters and air support, are being utilized to assist ground crews in slowing fire growth and protecting vulnerable areas.
Authorities believe the wildfire is suspected to be human-caused, although a formal investigation into the ignition source remains ongoing. Officials continue to remind the public to exercise caution and follow all fire safety regulations during periods of elevated wildfire danger.
The smoke generated by the wildfire has become highly visible throughout the region, including along Highway 1 and in communities as far away as Kamloops and Merritt. Despite the significant smoke column, officials currently do not anticipate impacts to Highway 1 or nearby railway operations.
According to fire managers, the wildfire’s growth has largely been upslope and away from critical infrastructure and populated areas. However, due to the ongoing threat, the Fraser Valley Regional District has issued evacuation alerts and orders affecting portions of the North Bend community and neighboring properties on the west side of the Fraser River.
Emergency officials are urging residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, monitor official updates, and be prepared to follow evacuation instructions if conditions change. Firefighters continue working around the clock to contain the blaze and protect nearby communities as suppression efforts remain underway.
